March’s Theme: Walk on The Wild Side

February was a busy month and nature has been busy too- the sure signs of spring are popping up everywhere!

We’ve had lots of our holistic experts chatting over on the Wellness Hub FB group and I’m currently in the process of compiling a directory of recommended practitioners to add as a resource to the website. Many of our wonderful members offer discounts for Hubbers and all come with the Janice stamp of approval!

I will also be compiling lists of recommended Products and Places!

We have such a wealth of expertise in our group, from Qi gong, shiatsu, acupuncture, t’ai chi, mindfulness, medical herbalists, reiki and energy practitioners to sound healers, yoga experts, foragers and holistic vets. Finding our best health can be a challenge but having access to accredited recommended professionals is a great starting point.

This month we are heading over to the wild side to embrace all our wonderful wild plants! We are seasonal beings and spring is about new growth, cleansing and lightening up after the heavy dark days of winter. How wonderful that all our wild greens are bursting into life now just when we need them!

All dark leafy greens and herbs are a wonderful food source packed with minerals, vitamins, protein, fibre and polyphenols, way superior to anything bought in a plastic bag from the supermarket!

Most excitingly the wild garlic is well and truly here so this month I’ll be making the most of it in many different dishes and concoctions.

Spring is my favourite time of year, we have lighter nights and brighter days which always beckon me outside to check what is growing! I decided a few years ago to embrace all the wild plants, commonly known as weeds, which seem to love my garden!

Nettles, dandelions, cleavers, ground elder, hairy Bittercress, red veined sorrel, 3 cornered leeks and wild garlic all have their place, and grow luxuriantly with zero input from me, other than to welcome them and tell them how much I appreciate them.

I do find it rather funny that so many gardeners (I used to be one of them) strive to grow cultivated plants which need feeding, protecting from pests and regular watering and wage a constant battle against our wild plants who ask for nothing yet grow and provide us with a valuable early food source, support our gut microbiome, taste good and have medicinal benefits too!

So do check out all of my wild garlic posts and make the most of this delicious and easily recognisable wild green!  Soups, pestos, sourdough, dips, salts, ferments, kimchi, infused vinegars and oils and even just freezing the young leaves to use like spinach! We also have a Walk on the Wild Side long sleeved t shirt which fits perfectly with our theme this month.

March is the month of new beginnings so Happy Mothers Day to all the mums and mother figures, we do an incredible job, so let’s be kind to ourselves this month, put ourselves first and practice some self care! Book a treatment with one of our experts or a wee retreat day!
